Lugansk, Russian Federation
Extracurricular school activities, their organization, management, and implementation are an urgent topic of modern pedagogy. This article introduces a historical and pedagogical analysis of the organization of extracurricular activities in the primary schools of Donbass in the first half of the XX century. Since Donbass joined the Russian Federation, the public interest to the life and history of this region has been increasing. However, the Soviet pedagogical heritage of Donbass remains largely understudied, especially in the field of extracurricular activities. Based on historical documents and pedagogical publications, the author described the formation and development of extracurricular activities in primary schools in Donbass in 1920–1940. The analysis made it possible to periodize the main stages of the development of extracurricular education in the Soviet education system, as well as to define the concept of extracurricular activities from the perspective of personality development.
